Warning

Event

Local official issued evacuation orders for coastal areas of Chattogram, Sathkhira, and Pirojpur on Saturday, November 9, ahead of the expected arrival of Cyclone Bulbul. The storm is forecast to land in Khepupara (Patuakhali district) on Saturday night (local time) or during the early hours of Sunday, November 10. Damaging winds and heavy rain are anticipated in the region in the coming hours. Officials also warned that low-lying coastal areas may experience 1.5-2 m (5-7 ft) storm surge.

Flooding, landslides, and power outages are possible in the area over the coming days, as well as associated transportation and business disruptions, including flight delays and cancelations.

As of 09:30 on Saturday, Bulbul was located at approximately 20.4°N 87.6°E and was moving north at a speed of 15 kph (9 mph) through the Bay of Bengal.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
