Germany: March and counterprotests planned in Hanover November 23
Police officials in Hanover announce transport disruptions on November 23 due to far-right protest and counterprotests; heightened security presence and associated disruptions expected

The far-right National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD) political party has called for a march in Hanover on Saturday, November 23, to denounce a number of journalists. Participants plan to gather at 14:30 (local time) at the Dietrich-Kittner-Platz, before heading to Aegidientorplatz via Mainzer Straße, Altenbekener Damm, Rudolf-von-Bennigsen-Ufer, Kurt-Schwitters-Platz, Willy-Brandt-Allee, and Friedrichswall. Local police have said that at least eight counterprotests are scheduled to take place in the area at the same time. They also said that at least a few thousand people in total are expected to participate in the demonstrations. Consequently, police officials have announced road closures, which are expected to affect some ÜSTRA bus lines and cause significant traffic disruptions throughout the city. Individuals are being encouraged to use public or alternative means of transport instead of motor vehicles. Local authorities have also issued stopping bans on several roads from 20:00 on Friday, November 22, through to 20:00 on Saturday (map here).
A heightened security and emergency personnel presence, as well as localized transportation disruptions, are expected near all demonstrations.
