Local media sources are reporting that at least three people have been killed and another 20 injured after a shallow 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit East Azerbaijan province during the early morning hours (local time) of Friday, November 8. According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck about 57 km (35 mi) northeast of Hashtrud at 02:30. Unconfirmed social media reports showed some buildings had collapsed in Mianeh. At least two after shocks have also been recorded as of 05:00. Rescue teams have been deployed into the area and damage assessments are ongoing. Further details are still emerging.
