Mexican Navy officials have confirmed a pirate attack which targeted an Italian vessel with a 35-member crew in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, November 12. Two crew members were injured, one was shot and the other sustained a concussion.

Context

According to local oil companies, robbery by pirates are increasing, particularly in the southern rim of the Gulf of Mexico where several oil platforms producing crude are operating.
