Additional police officers and increased security measures were deployed throughout Sri Lanka on Wednesday, November 13, as campaigning for the upcoming presidential election ended. Sniffer dogs and explosive detectors were used at final rallies on Wednesday. According to independent observers, 31 people were hospitalized due to election-related violence between rival political parties during the campaign period.

Similar heightened security measures are expected across the country during the vote on Saturday, November 16. An increased police presence is anticipated around all polling stations and in major urban areas. Associated political rallies are possible following the announcement of the results. Clashes between rival political supporters cannot be ruled out.
