Portugal: Red weather alerts issued in northern Portugal December 19-20

The Portuguese meteorology agency issued red weather warnings, on Thursday, December 19, for several northern regions. Wind gusts of 140 kph (87 mph) are expected in Garda, Castelo Blanco, Coimbra, Aveiro, and Viseu regions from 18:00 (local time) on Thursday to 03:00 on Friday, December 20. Rain alerts have also been issued for Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Braga, Porto, and Aveiro regions and are expected to remain in effect until at least 21:00 on Thursday.

Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible over the coming hours and days.
