The state power utility company Eskom announced on Monday, December 9, that power outages will persist throughout the day, due to heavy rains which have battered the country since Thursday, December 5. The company has implemented a Stage 4 rotational load shedding from 10:00 to 23:00 (local time) and has warned the situation could persist until the end of the week. Additional power outages are expected over the coming days.

Associated transportation, business, and power disruptions are expected throughout the week. Demonstrations are also possible if power disruptions persist over the near term.
