Germany: Evacuations in Berlin due to unexploded WWII bomb January 21

Police issued evacuation orders for residences and businesses in Berlin's Mitte borough on Tuesday, January 21, following the discovery of a WWII-era bomb in the area. The bomb was discovered at approximately 11:30 (local time) on Tuesday during construction work near the Red City Hall. Approximately 1900 residents have been ordered to leave their homes within a 300 m (984 ft) radius of the site. Tram, S-Bahn train, and bus services are all expected to face disruptions in the area. Police will begin operations to defuse the bomb as soon as evacuations have been completed; according to police, it will take around 30 minutes to defuse the bomb.
