Iran: 5.8-magnitude earthquake reported near Sangan January 2

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded near Sangan on Thursday, January 2, at a depth of 8 km (5 mi). The earthquake occurred about 300 km (186 mi) south of the holy city of Mashhad. Limited infrastructure damage was reported in about 14 villages and no casualties are on record.

Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
