Mexico: National earthquake drill on January 20
Authorities to hold a national earthquake drill on January 20; heightened security presence and business and transportation disruptions expected

A national earthquake drill will take place on Monday, January 20, which will resemble a real earthquake with the alarm engaged. The government has asked citizens to participate in order to better respond and minimize loss of life and damage during an authentic incident.
The drill will begin at 11:00 (local time), during which the seismic alert will be activated through 12,411 speakers, as well as radio and television broadcasts. Then, the evacuation protocol will begin, using air and ground reinforcements. The Ministry of Security and Citizen Participation announced that it will make available 22,923 police officers for the simulation.
Business and transportation disruptions, including road closures, and a heightened security presence are to be expected before, during, and after the drill.

Individuals in Mexico are advised to monitor developments to the situation, anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation and business disruptions, and obey all instructions issued by local authorities.
In the case of an earthquake individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from the windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
