Cook Islands: Tropical disturbance brings high seas and strong winds to the islands February 18
Tropical disturbance hits much of the Cook Islands February 18; flooding, strong winds, and high seas expected

On Tuesday, February 18, Tropical Disturbance 08F hit the Cook Islands, bringing winds of up to 111 kph (69 mph), heavy rain, and dangerous waves. The Cook Meteorological Service has issued gale and high seas warnings for the southern Cook Islands. Schools have also been closed until the bad weather passes.
The Fiji Meteorological service has reported the risk of the tropical disturbance becoming a cyclone over the next 24 to 48 hours is moderate as the weather system moves southeast.

Individuals in the Cook Islands are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate lingering transportation and business disruptions, confirm flight reservations, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
