A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Iran's West Azerbaijan province, some 25 km (16 mi) southeast of Saray (Turkey), around 19:30 (local time) on Sunday, February 23, after a 5.7-magnitude earthquake centered around the Iranian village of Habash-e Olya hit the region earlier in the day, leaving 75 injured in West Azerbaijan province, as well as nine others dead and 37 injured in neighboring Turkey. The number of casualties and the scope of material damages associated with the 6.0-magnitude earthquake were not immediately reported.
Aftershocks are possible in the region over the coming hours and days.
