Belgium: Dozens of rioters arrested in Brussels following fatal vehicle accident on April 11

On Saturday, April 11, police arrested 43 protesters after riots broke out in the Anderlecht district of Brussels following a fatal accident between a police vehicle and a motorcyclist. Unrest reportedly began on Friday, April 10, after security forces in Anderlecht attempted to stop a motorcyclist, who subsequently collided into a second police vehicle. Anderlecht's Mayor Fabrice Cumps stated that two officers, as well as several protesters, were wounded in the clashes, and the situation was now under control. A heightened police presence is to be expected in the immediate term.
