The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.1-magnitude earthquake 96 km (60 mi) south of Paredon (Chiapas state) at approximately 04:44 (local time) on Wednesday, April 15; the quake struck at a depth of 35 km (22 mi). There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant material damage, and no tsunami warnings were immediately issued.
Aftershocks are possible in the affected areas over the coming hours and days.
