On Thursday, April 2, some 63 jihadists were killed amid clashes with security forces in the Tillaberi region near the Malian border. Four Nigerien soldiers were also reportedly killed in the fighting, which lasted several hours until the group of remaining militants were forced to flee. The army recovered dozens of weapons and motorcycles from the attackers following the clashes.
A heightened security presence is expected in the area over the coming days.

More than 170 soldiers have been killed in Niger in several attacks since December 2019, largely in the Sahel region of the country.
