Hong Kong: Red Rainstorm warning issued May 25
Red rainstorm warning issued for Hong Kong on May 25; heavy rain, flooding, and associated disruptions likely in the near term
Event
On Monday, May 25, the Hong Kong Observatory issued a red rainstorm warning for the territory. Heavy rain in excess of 50mm an hour is expected to fall, bringing the likelihood of flooding to roads and associated traffic disruptions. The observatory warns that the rain will bring flash flooding and that those living in proximity to rivers should stay alert to conditions and consider evacuation. All PM schools are suspended for the day, but AM and whole-day schools are to continue until the end of school hours.
Advice
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate continuing disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
