Suspected Kurdish separatists kill one Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) soldier in clashes in Mariwan county (Kurdistan province) on May 19; further attacks possible in the near term

At least one Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) soldier and two suspected Kurdish separatists were killed in clashes which occurred on Tuesday, May 19, in Mariwan county (Kurdistan province). Reports indicate that the clashes broke out at approximately 14:40 (local time) between Rashadi and Doisa villages. A further four separatists were wounded in the fighting. No group has claimed immediate responsibility for the incident.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the area. Similar attacks and clashes are possible in the near term.
