Belgium: Police officers stage demonstration in Brussels June 19
Police officers stage demonstration in Brussels on June 19; avoid protests
Event
Police officers staged a demonstration outside of the Palace of Justice in Brussels on Friday, June 19, against negative portrayals of police in the media. The Police Unifying Movement (PUM) also called for demonstrations in other major cities, including Charleroi, Liège, Seraing, and Namur. The protests come following allegations of police misconduct during a protest in Brussels on Sunday, June 7, over the police-related death of George Floyd in the US and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, during which clashes erupted between protesters and police.
Further protests are possible in the near term.
Advice
Individuals in Brussels are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
