Multiple fatalities reported following explosion at Tehran medical center on June 30; localized traffic disruptions likely

Warning

Event

On Tuesday, June 30, an explosion took place at the Sina Athar Medical Center near Tehran's Tajrish Square, with local media reports indicating that 19 individuals were killed and dozens more were injured. However, state media has reported that the death toll lies at 13, with six injured, and that the blast was caused by a gas leak. A fire at the medical center caused by the explosion has since been put out by firefighters. The explosion follows a similar incident at a sensitive military site near Tehran last week, which was also blamed on a gas leak.

Localized traffic disruptions are likely in the near term.

Advice

Those in Tehran and the surrounding area are advised to monitor developments, anticipated localized disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
