The public utility company Eskom announced that localized load shedding was to take place across Gauteng province between 17:00 and 22:00 (local time) on Sunday, June 28, in order to avoid overloading in high-density areas. The shedding affects parts of Soweto, Vaal, and West Rand. The reduction marks the second week of power outages in the province. Eksom also stated that poor weather conditions have also produced outages in parts of Eastern Cape province in addition to parts of Western Cape province, and that technicians are working to resolve the issue.
Further outages are possible over the near term.
