Spain: Automotive workers to protest in Zaragoza June 22 and 25

Automotive union announces demonstrations in Zaragoza (Aragon region) on June 22 and 25; avoid all gatherings as a precaution

Warning

Event

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) union has announced that demonstrations will take place in Zaragoza (Aragon region) on Monday, June 22, and Thursday, June 25. On June 22, a demonstration will take place at 12:00 (local time) at Avda. Alcalde Caballero 50, and on June 25 the demonstration will take place at 19:00 at Plaza de España.

Disruption in the vicinity of any protests is to be expected, along with a heightened security presence. Other demonstrations are possible in other urban centres across Spain.

Context

The protests are being held against Nissan's announcement in May this year to close its plant in Barcelona, which CGT say could result in 3000 direct jobs and 20,000 indirect jobs being lost.

Since 28 May, demonstrations attracting thousands of participants have taken place in Barcelona's La Rambla, Plaza de Catalunya and Avinguda Diagonal, among other locations. To date, gatherings have largely remained peaceful.

Advice

Individuals in Zaragoza are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
