On Thursday evening, July 16, protesters reportedly clashed with security forces in Behbahan (Khuzestan province) after crowds gathered to demonstrate against a court decision to uphold the death sentence against three people that were arrested in the anti-government unrest in November 2019. Police officers in riot gear reportedly fired tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowds. Internet access has also reportedly been cut in Khuzestan province. Similar protests have been observed in Shiraz (Fars province).
Further protests over the issue are possible in Behbahan and other parts of the country in the near term.
