Civilians wounded as rival groups clash in Janzour area of western Tripoli on July 7; further clashes possible in near term

Warning

Event

Rival groups are reported to have clashed in the Janzour area of western Tripoli on the morning of Tuesday, July 7, leaving several civilians wounded. The incident reportedly occurred at a fuel station near the Ratemi junction at around 03:30 (local time) as residents were queuing for fuel. A number of civilian vehicles were damaged in the exchange of small arms fire and at least one set alight, but it is currently unclear how many people were wounded in the incident.

Both sides have since disengaged but tensions remain elevated in the area and there remains a realistic possibility of further clashes in the near term.

Advice

Those in Tripoli are advised to avoid the Janzour area in the near term due to the risk of further armed clashes, monitor developments, and adhere to any directives issued by local authorities.

The security environment in Libya remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas (with appropriate security protocols in place), other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
