Security forces deployed following attack that killed at least 20 people in South Darfur state July 26; further violence possible in the near term

The Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok said on Sunday, July 26, that security forces will be deployed to the Darfur region following an attack on Thursday, July 23 that killed at least 20 civilians in South Darfur state. Hamdok stated that a joint security force of army and police will be deployed in the five states of the region for the duration of the farming season. The attack on July 23, occurred in the village of Gereida, located around 107 km (66 miles) south of the provincial capital Nyala

Further violence is possible in South Sudan state in the coming days and weeks.
