Iran: Protesters to gather in Tehran August 6

Protesters plan to gather in Tehran on August 6; avoid all demonstrations as a precaution

Warning

Event

Dozens of demonstrators are expected to gather in Tehran on Thursday, August 6, to denounce the execution of Mostafa Salehi. Reports indicate that the participants will gather at Laleh Park from 19:00 (local time). Mostafa Salehi was executed in Najafabad (Isfahan province) on Wednesday, August 5, for allegedly killing an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) soldier during anti-government protests in 2017.

Localized disruption and a heightened security presence are likely in the vicinity of the protest.

Advice

Individuals in Tehran are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests due to the risk of violence, budget extra time to reach their destinations if traveling through areas affected by demonstrations, prepare for associated disruptions to transportation and business, and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
