Teachers across Uruguay are to participate in a 48-hour strike over the government's handling of public education, between Wednesday, August 19 and Thursday, August 20. On Wednesday, teachers in multiple urban centers are due to strike, including Cerro Largo, Lavalleja, Maldonado, Rocha, and Trienta y Tres, with an associated protest scheduled in Minas (Lavalleja), beginning at 11:30 (local time) at Plaza Libertad. Teachers will also strike in Colonia, Canelones, Durazno, Flores, Florida, and Montevideo on August 20, with a demonstration at the University of the Republic (UDELAR) esplanade in the capital Montevideo due to begin at 11:00.
