Libya: Protesters block roads in Zliten and Tripoli September 23-24

Protests following days of electricity outages in the Zliten area (Murqub district) lead to demonstrators blocking the coastal road on Wednesday evening, September 23, and again on Thursday, September 24. Youths have reportedly vowed to continue blocking the road until power is restored. Demonstrators also bemoaned a general deterioration of living conditions. Protests over similar issues were witnessed in Tripoli, with roads being blocked on Wednesday night, including Al Shat Road, and cars being set on fire in the Souk Al-Jumaa area in the early hours of Thursday.

Further protests are expected across Libya in the near term. Due to protesters erecting road blocks, transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of any protests.
