Cambodia: Authorities warn of flooding in northern areas September 30-October 6

Authorities warn of rain-induced floods in northern areas due to passing of low-pressure system between September 30 and October 6; monitor local weather reports

Warning

Event

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology have issued a warning for possible rain-induced flooding in low-lying areas and mountain run-off areas due to the passing of a low-pressure system from the South China Sea from Wednesday, September 30, to Tuesday, October 6. Whilst heavy rainfall will bring the threat of flooding in northern areas, stormy conditions are also expected along coastal areas. Water levels have only just begun to recede in some areas following another storm that occurred last week.

Heavy rainfall and resultant flooding are possible over the coming days, along with associated disruptions to business and transport.

Advice

Those in Cambodia are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
