Event

Heavy rains hit Tegucigalpa and other parts of Honduras on Saturday, October 3, causing flooding and landslides. Some areas of the capital were inundated, damaging homes, vehicles, and leaving one person missing. On Friday, October 2, the Center for Atmospheric, Oceanographic and Seismic Studies (Cenaos) issued warnings for heavy rainfall for much of the country through to Tuesday, October 6, linked to the presence of Tropical Storm Gamma in the Gulf of Mexico.

Further heavy rainfall over the coming days is likely to cause further landslides and floods, as well as associated disruptions to business, transportation, and utilities.

Those in Honduras are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
