Libya: Protesters block roads in Tripoli’s Tajoura area October 2

Protesters block roads in Tripoli’s Tajoura area on October 2; further protests possible

Warning

Event

Protesters blocked roads in the Tajoura area of the capital Tripoli on Friday, October 2, to demand justice for residents who they believe were killed during clashes between armed militias some days prior. Reports indicate that protesters blocked the Bifi and Shat roads using rocks and burning tires.

Further unrest is possible in the near term and could result in associated disruptions.

Advice

Those in the area are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.

The security environment in Libya remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas (with appropriate security protocols in place), other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
