Security forces carry out counter-terrorism raids in Tripoli and Khoms on October 18; further operations possible
Event
Security forces conducted counter-terrorism raids in the outskirts of Tripoli and in Khoms in neighbouring Murqub district on Sunday, October 18. At least four people, including Libyan and foreign nationals, were detained in the operations and reports suggest that they had improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in their possession. Those detained were allegedly planning to carry out attacks within Libya.
Further counter-terrorism operations are possible in this area in the near term.
Advice
Those in the aforementioned areas are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate further associated security operations, and heed any directives issued by local authorities.
The security environment in Libya remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas (with appropriate security protocols in place), other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
