Rail union strike in Gauteng province cause disruptions as it enters its second week on October 12; confirm travel itineraries

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) and the management and operating company for Gautrain, which operates in Gauteng province, have entered their second week of industrial action on Monday, October 13. The strike has caused disruptions in rail services between Johannesburg, Pretoria, Ekhuruleni, and O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), although additional trains been added over the previous days. Mediation between NUMSA and their employer are being handled by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA) over a proposed wage increase. 

Protests associated with the strike are possible. Localized travel disruptions should be anticipated while the strike is in force.
