US: Authorities in Philadelphia reinstate curfew following continued protests October 30 /update 2
Authorities in Philadelphia reinstate 21:00 – 06:00 curfew following continued protests October 30; avoid protest sites and follow official directives
Event
Authorities in the city of Philadelphia have announced that a 21:00 to 06:00 (local time) curfew would be reinstated on Friday, October 30, following four days of violent protests over the police killing of a black man. Authorities had initially announced the curfew on Wednesday, October 28, before rescinding it on Thursday, when poor weather meant that many protesters did not take to the streets. Hundreds of protesters have been arrested during the unrest, and dozens of police officers injured. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced the deployment of the National Guard in the city earlier in the week, along with additional police reinforcements.
A heightened police presence and transportation disruptions are expected in the city, and further clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Those in Philadelphia are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate localized disruptions, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
