Continued flooding in central provinces kills 17 as of October 11; further inclement weather forecasted

Continued flooding in Vietnam's central provinces has killed at least 17 people and has left 13 others missing as of Sunday, October 11. Heavy rains have been reported in the provinces of Da Nang, Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, Quảng Nam, Quảng Trị, and Thừa Thiên-Huế. Flooding has isolated communities and submerged or damaged up to 33,000 houses, leaving up to 31,000 people displaced. In Quảng Nam province, evacuation operations have been launched in Đại Lộc, Nam Trà My, and Tây Giang where up to 68 roads have been eroded by rains. Some 11,000 people have been evacuated in Thừa Thiên-Huế province with the districts of Quảng Điền and Phong Điền being isolated.
The flooding comes as Tropical Storm Linfa is forecast to affect central Vietnam from late Sunday. Linfa is forecast to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to central and south-central Vietnam until Tuesday, October 13, as it moves inland.
