Event

Two separate protests are due to take place in San Jose on Wednesday, November 18. The largest of the demonstrations is expected to be a gathering led by the National Rescue Movement (Movimiento de Rescate Nacional, MRN) outside the Legislative Assembly from 09:00 (local time). The demonstration is the latest in a series of protests against the government's proposed deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Another demonstration will be held by ecological and environmental activists at the nearby Plaza de la Democracia from 12:00. The participants in this protest plan to demonstrate against mining sector bills being discussed in the legislature.

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions to transport are expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces cannot be ruled out.
