Warning

Event

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (NEHAWU) has called on supporters to protest across the country on Thursday, November 26, calling on the National Department of Health (NDH) to permanently employ community health workers. Demonstrators will also denounce the NDH's alleged failure to compensate the healthcare workers adequately, as well as address the non-payment of salary increases of public servants and frontline workers. Marches have been organized across the country in Gauteng, Limpopo, Free State, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Northern Cape, Kwa-Zulu NatalMpumalanga, and North West provinces.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the vicinity of rallies. Localized disruptions to businesses and transportation, including to health services, should also be anticipated.

Advice

Those in South Africa are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and gatherings as a precaution, allow ample travel time, anticipate associated disruptions, and heed official instructions from local authorities.
