The governor of South Kordofan Hamid El Bashir issued a decree on Saturday, October 31, declaring a state of emergency and imposing a nightly 18:00-06:00 (local time) curfew in Gedir for a period of three months. The decree restricts the movement of public and private vehicles.
The decree comes after members of the Kenana Arifab and Hawazma Dar Ali herders' clans clashed in the Gedir area of Talodi on Friday, October 30. Casualty figures from the clashes were not immediately clear.
Long-running tribal feuds between ethnic groups are not uncommon in the state, similar attacks and tribal clashes are possible in South Kordofan province in the near and medium term.
