Sudan: FCDO advise against nonessential travel along Ethiopian border November 12
UK foreign ministry advises against all but essential travel along the Ethiopian border due to Tigray conflict on November 12; follow official advice

On Wednesday, November 12, the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) modified its travel advice for Sudan to warn against all but essential travel within 20km (12 miles) of Sudan's border with Ethiopia. The border was closed on November 5 following the outbreak of an armed conflict between the government and people from the bordering Tigray region. The Sudanese government has reported that over 6000 refugees have fled into the country from Tigray due to the conflict despite the border closure, with more expected to arrive. Sudanese Armed Forces have been deployed along the border in Gedaref and Kassala states.
A heightened security presence is expected along the border whilst the conflict is ongoing. Conflict spillover is unlikely but cannot be ruled out.
Context
The clashes in Tigray began on Wednesday, November 4, and there have reportedly resulted in hundreds of casualties so far. Tens of thousands have also been displaced, with many feeling to Sudan.
Advice
Those in Sudan are advised to follow the official advice to avoid all but essential travel to the border area. Any operationally critical deployments should be conducted with appropriate security protocols and procedures in place.
