Event

A magnitude-5.2 earthquake occurred in central Croatia at around 0628 CET Dec. 28. The epicenter was about 8 km (5 miles) west of Petrinja. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and strong-to-moderate shaking was probably felt in central Croatia, while weak-to-light shaking likely occurred throughout the rest of country, as well as Slovenia, parts of southeastern Austria, northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, and southwestern Hungary. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are possible over the coming days.
