Authorities are responding to the discovery of an unexploded World War II-era bomb in Barczewo, Warmia-Masuria Province Dec. 5. The device was discovered during construction work. Authorities have evacuated approximately 1,100 residents and imposed a security cordon around the site. No traffic is permitted within the security cordon, and authorities have closed national road 16 between Barczewo and Legajny to facilitate the disposal operation. Officials have stated they expect the operation to conclude at 1200. Barczewo is located approximately 165 km (101 miles) north of Warsaw.

Public transport normally routed through the area may be canceled or diverted; increased traffic congestion is possible as drivers seek alternative routes.
