Vietnam: Additional protests by ride-hailing drivers possible outside Grab office in Hanoi as of Dec. 8

Ride-hailing drivers from the Grab application may stage further rallies outside the company's office in Cau Giay District, Hanoi, as of Dec. 8. Demonstrators claim Grab's recent policies, including an additional commission for the company, are worsening their working conditions. Hundreds of people participated in a related protest at the site Dec. 7, and similar numbers may turn up at any upcoming action.

Authorities will almost certainly increase security during any protests. Localized transport and business disruptions may occur, especially if demonstrators occupy nearby streets. Clashes are possible if authorities forcibly disperse any rally or if demonstrators attempt to breach security barriers. Mass arrests may occur if officials consider any protester to violate coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions.
