Authorities are implementing restrictions in Macuatua, Savusavu, and surrounding villages in Northern Division as of Jan. 15 amid new cases of Leptospirosis, Typhoid, Dengue, and Diarrhea. Officials are not permitting residents to travel outside of their villages. Health staff also suspended mass gatherings, closed schools, and banned sharing belongings in the affected villages. It is unclear how long the measures will remain in place.
Police will probably increase their presence in the affected areas, especially on main roads connecting villages. Transport disruptions are highly likely to continue until officials reduce restrictions.
Savusavu is approximately 175 km (109 miles) northeast of Suva.
