Activists affiliated with various organizations, including the Landivarianos university students' group and Women in Motion (Mujeres en Movimiento), plan to demonstrate in Guatemala City Jan. 14 during President Alejandro Giammattei's yearly speech to Congress. Demonstrators plan to gather at Plaza de la Constitucion in downtown Guatemala City starting at 1000 and then march to Congress.

Thousands are likely to join the demonstrations, which are likely to lead to transport and business disruptions. A large security display is highly likely in the downtown area, with possible street closures. Clashes between demonstrators and police have occurred in recent anti-government protests in Guatemala and cannot be ruled out.
