Nigerien authorities have announced a three-day national mourning period through Jan. 7 following the killing of hundreds of people by suspected terrorists, Jan. 2. Government office and business closures are possible nationwide.

Commemorative events and associated road closures are also possible nationwide during the mourning period, especially in Niamey. A heightened security force presence is likely near official events. Public transport disruptions are possible through Jan. 7, as are disruptions to government services.
