Workers from organizations including the Romanian Federation of Railway Carriers’ Unions, the Railway Hospitals Union, and the Union of Dismissed Military Personnel in Romania, plan to gather at 20 different locations throughout Bucharest from 1100 – 1300 on Jan. 24. The purpose of the demonstrations is to protest recent budgetary measures related to salary rights and railway rolling stock purchases. The gatherings are scheduled to occur simultaneously at various locations in the city including at foreign embassies, the Representative of the European Commission, the National Liberal Party, and at several government ministries, buildings, and offices. Anywhere from 20 – 100 participants are expected to be protesting at each location. Around 100 protesters are anticipated to participate in a gathering outside of the US Embassy.

Heightened security measures, as well as localized transport and business disruptions, are likely near all protest sites. Clashes between police and protesters remain possible, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive.
