Armed clashes have occurred in Geneina, the administrative capital of West Darfur State, Jan. 16, following an escalation of a dispute between two communities in the Krendq Camp for displaced persons. Local media reports at least two people have been killed and one person seriously injured during the unrest, which has since spread to multiple parts of the city.
Additional security personnel have reportedly been deployed throughout the city in response to the clashes. Increased security measures, such as roadblocks and additional security checkpoints, will likely prompt localized transport disruptions. Additional violence between communities or with security services is possible in the coming days.
