Violent protests have occurred in Entebbe Jan. 26. Incidents have been reported in the vicinity of Central Market and along the Old Kampala road, involving supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the opposition Democratic Party (DP). Clashes between party cadres and security forces, resulting in casualties and possible fatalities, have also been reported. Demonstrators gathered following the publication of mayoral results for the city. An independent candidate with NRM support has been declared the victor by the Entebbe Electoral Commission.

Security forces will likely remain deployed to the affected areas in the coming hours. Further clashes between protesters and security forces are possible, particularly if participants continue to be disruptive or refuse police orders to disperse. Transport disruptions are likely to persist on routes in and out of central Entebbe.
