The US Embassy in Honduras has issued a security alert warning of potential violence coinciding with a high-profile sporting event in Tegucigalpa from 1600 Feb. 28. Two local football teams, Motagua and Olimpia, will compete at the National Stadium. The embassy has indicated that pre-game and post-game celebrations have been marred by violence in the past. The embassy has also noted that violence is typically confined to the area in and around the stadium.

Authorities will almost certainly increase security around the National Stadium ahead of the game. Associated movement restrictions, including road closures, are possible.
