Anti-government protests will likely continue in Sistan va Baluchestan Province through at least mid-March. Demonstrations initially broke out in Saravan Feb. 23 over the killing of several ethnic Baluch fuel collectors by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The protests have since spread to multiple cities throughout the province, including Chabahar, Zabol, and Zahedan. Authorities have reportedly blocked internet services to curb the unrest.
Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence in the province until the unrest subsides.
