Niger: Landmine explosion kills seven injuries 3 in Tillaberi region, Feb. 21

Seven local members of Niger's National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) were killed and three other persons were injured when their vehicle ran over a landmine near the village of Waraou, Dargol township, in the Tillaberi Region on Feb. 21. The incident occurred on the day the second round of voting in the country's presidential election took place. The explosion underscores the threat from militant groups operating across much of Niger, who often use mines to attack local and foreign security forces.
